A square in the south-eastern corner of the Erlenmatt Park, which has a different design to the rest of the park and is a popular meeting place for children and young people, is to be named Anne Frank-Platz. This connection to young people in a newly developed and lively area represents a future-oriented memorial to a young girl whose life story during the National Socialist period will always remain relevant.

The Commission on Nomenclature of the City of Basel had for some time planned to use Anne Frank's name for an appropriate location. On the commission's request, the Head of the Department for Justice and Security has now decided to rename the square in Erlenmatt Park.
