The Anne Frank Fonds is responsible for the publication of the Diary and the writings of Anne Frank around the world. It administers, «inter alia», the rights to the writings of Anne and Otto Frank, photographs, translations, editions, compilations, and books authorised by the foundation, e.g. about Anne Frank and her family.

Basic information


Authorisation must be obtained from the foundation and/or its legal representatives (publishing houses or other organisations) for any utilisation of texts, photographs and images of the Diary or the manuscript. Any processing or adaptation of the Diary or utilisation of the material requires authorisation or a licence.

The foundation rejects any commercial utilisation of texts, quotations, and photos from the estate of Anne and Otto Frank. Action will be taken, in cooperation with partners and licence holders, against any unlawful utilisation.

The Liepman agency in Zurich licences the rights to the Diary.

Theatre


In addition to numerous individual productions, there are three official stage versions of the Diary of Anne Frank:
 

  1. The first stage version by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett is from 1955. In 1956, the two authors were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for their adaptation of the Diary.


  2. In 1997, the US American author Wendy Kesselman reworked the play from the 1950s and added newly published sections of the Diary to it..


  3. The most recent adaptation of the Diary for theatre was Anne by Leon de Winter and Jessica Durlacher in 2014.
