The Diary of Anne Frank was published as a Graphic Diary for the first time in 2017. In the meantime, this Graphic Diary has already been translated into 20 languages, published in about 60 countries, and been at the top of the bestseller list in five countries.

 

The Diary of Anne Frank, the world-renowned contemporary document, is part of the canon of Holocaust literature Now, seventy years after its first publication, the original diary has been complemented by a graphic version. This adaptation, by screenwriter and film-maker Ari Folman and illustrator David Polonsky, once again demonstrates the literary dimension and brilliance of the young author Anne Frank. It visualises Anne Frank’s contemporary historical document by conveying the historical and social context in which the Diary was written. Based on the definitive edition of the diary, the Graphic Diary renders tangible the fate of the eight inhabitants of the secret annex during their 743 days in hiding. The two artists’ impressive capacity to understand and analyse the original text results in an illustrated narrative revealing the true essence of the Diary of Anne Frank. The Graphic Diary has now been published in more than 50 countries worldwide – 75 years after Anne Frank started writing her diary, and 70 years after its first publication.
