To mark what would have been the 90th birthday of Anne Frank on 12 June 2019, a special edition of the diaries (Versions a and b) will be published as a high-quality linen-bound edition by the S. Fischer publishing house, with approval from the Anne Frank Fonds Basel.
The retail price is 35 euros. The cover was designed by the world-renowned illustrator, David Polonsky. The text is based on the translation by Mirjam Pressler and includes a preface by the Director General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay.
Das Hinterhaus – Het Achterhuis will be available from 8 May.
On 12 June, the City of Frankfurt am Main and the Anne Frank Fonds Basel will organise an official celebration in St. Paul's Church in Frankfurt, where Anne and Margot Frank were born and where the family had lived for centuries until they emigrated.
The first critical scientific edition of the diaries of Anne Frank is currently being prepared, under the responsibility of, inter alia, Raphael Gross, President of the German Historical Museum, the Lichtenberg-Kolleg of the University of Göttingen, the Fritz Bauer Institute of the University of Frankfurt, and further academic partners in Germany, the Netherlands, Israel, the USA, and other countries. Publication of this edition, which takes a research-based approach to issues raised by the diary relating to the background of the different editions, to philology, and to history, is planned for the summer of 2020.
The S. Fischer publishing house can look back at decades of partnership with the family of Otto Frank and the Anne Frank Fonds Basel, which was the only organisation he established. All income from Anne's diaries and from the writings and licences of the Frank family is returned to civil society. In addition to the foundation's financial contributions to numerous initiatives, the partnership with the UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, is one of the most important long-term projects.
